What is a knit-along?
Knit-Alongs are usually held 90 minutes prior to our normal monthly meeting. A small group of interested knitters meets for two or three months to learn a technique or work on a project. Often, the group provides support to each other via e-mail or telephone.
Prior Knit-Along subjects have included fingerless gloves, Maggie’s Pretty Purple Purse, socks, double-knitting, modular knitting, Medrith Glover’s Circumnavigated Cardigan, Scrappy Socky Stripey Cardi for babies, Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Ribwarmer, and:
If you have ideas for future Knit-Alongs, contact one of our Education VPs at firstname.lastname@example.org (refer to “Guild KAL” in your subject line) or bring it up on our Ravelry group!
November 2019 – March 2020
Flax, by Tin Can Knits, is the pattern we will be using. It is free on Ravelry and includes sizes from Newborn to 4XL or 18-58” chest circumference.
We’ll work on it from 12:30-2:00 pm before our monthly Guild meetings. There is also a thread on Ravelry for questions, encouragement, and progress updates.
A link to “Knitting Your First Sweater” by Tin Can Knits is also at the top of the thread – a great resource regardless of skill level. Here is the tentative plan for our KAL:
November – Yarn Selection, Gauge Swatch, Measurements
December – Cast On Party
January – Work through Yoke/Sleeves
February – Body/Finishing
March – FO Celebration
January 2019 thru April 2019
Mary Dale-Banister and Katie Wilson will lead a knit-along featuring two mosaic design shawls, which were selected by the members at the November 2018 meeting.
Mary will be contacting the designers to determine if she can get a discount on the patterns by buying multiple copies for the Knit-Along. The individual cost for each shawl is indicated below:
Double Dutch £3.50 GBP (approximately $4.68)
Emiliana £4.80 GBP (approximately $5.61) *
* Guild members can purchase the Emiliana Shawl pattern on Ravelry at a 25% discount with this coupon code: EMILIANA KAL. This offer is valid until end of March 2019; one use per customer and is limited to 60 uses by our guild. (Permission will be granted for more patterns if we need more than 60 patterns.)
Double Dutch by Katya Frankel is a narrow crescent-shaped shawl that is worked from the top down, using 766 yards of fingering weight yarn.
Emiliana by Lisa Hannes is a full triangular shawl knit sideways using 840 yards of fingering weight yarn.
July, August and September 2016
Our next Knit-along will be Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Baby Surprise Jacket. We will work on these prior to the meetings in July, August and September.
Poncho Knit-Along April – June 2016
Ponchos are this season’s hottest fashion accessory, so we have chosen ponchos for the next Knitters’ Challenge Knit-Along (KAL). This will start in April and end in June. You can use any poncho pattern you want. Post your progress or ask questions on the Poncho KAL thread on the Guild’s forum on Ravelry. There will also be KAL time before the Guild meetings in April and May, if you have questions or need help.
Several members plan to make the 14 Carat Poncho, which is a mystery knit-along by Knit Purl Hunter. This KAL starts April 7, with her contest closing on May 31, 2016. For more information, and a list of materials you will need for this KAL, go to the Knit Purl Hunter KAL Group on Ravelry and select the April 2016 KAL – 14 Carat (Poncho) thread. Clues with instructions will be posted there, or sign up for her eletter at http://knitpurlhunter.com/subscribe.html. You don’t have to register, and the pattern is FREE.

Monthly Hat KAL
Each month we will be spotlighting a hat pattern to be knitted for the Monthly Hat KAL.
A new hat will be chosen each month. If you have questions about the directions, you can get assistance during Tech Time (12:30-2pm at the General Meeting). Several members have completed theirs, so you will get plenty of help. To participate in our KALs, please join us.
